How to Create and Assign Tags to Contacts
Tags in StudioHub are a powerful way to segment your contacts, trigger automations, and organize your CRM. This guide will walk you through how to create and assign tags — both manually and automatically — to ensure your workflows run efficiently.
What Are Tags?
Tags are labels you can apply to contacts to help identify, group, and automate actions based on behaviors or attributes. Common uses include:
- Tagging leads by campaign source (e.g., "Facebook Lead Ad")
- Marking contacts for follow-up (e.g., "Needs Call")
- Identifying customer lifecycle stages (e.g., "Client - Onboarding")
Step 1: Creating a Tag
Tags in StudioHub are created automatically when you assign them — there is no separate "tag management" section.
To create a new tag:
- Navigate to Contacts > Smart Lists.
- Open any contact profile.
- Scroll to the Tags section.
- Click
+ Add Tag
. - Type in your desired tag name and press Enter to create and assign it.

Step 3: Assigning Tags via Automation
Tags can also be automatically applied using workflows:
- Go to Automation > Workflows.
- Create or edit a workflow.
- Add a Trigger (e.g., "Form Submitted", "Appointment Scheduled").
- Add an Action > choose Add Tag.
- Enter the name of the tag to apply.
You can also use the Remove Tag action to clean up or reverse tags.

Best Practices for Tagging
- Keep tag names consistent and lowercase (e.g., "lead-facebook" vs "Lead Facebook").
- Use hyphens or underscores to improve readability.
- Periodically audit your tags to merge or delete unused ones.
Conclusion
Whether manually or through automation, tags are essential for personalizing contact journeys, improving segmentation, and powering dynamic campaigns. Implement these steps to make your CRM more intelligent and responsive.
